GHS goes 0-3 at state tourney


The Goessel volleyball team struggled Friday in Hays at the Class 1A Division 1 state tournament. The No. 6 seeded Bluebirds finished 0-3 in Pool II play Friday.

Opening with a 25-7, 21-25, 25-22 loss to No. 7-seeded Hoxie, Goessel was swept in its next two matches to end its season.

The No. 3 Jetmore-Hodgeman County defeated Goessel, 25-15, 25-23, in the 5:30 p.m. match. No. 2 seed St. John-Hudson ended the Bluebirds? season in the next match, 25-7, 25-12.

St. John won the Class 1A Division I state championship, defeating No. 5 seed Baileyville B&B, 25-15, 25-15, in the semifinals and No. 1 seed Olpe, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, in the championship match.

Goessel (26-14) finished the season as the inaugural Wheat State League regular season champions and the Burrton sub-state champions.
