On the third day of the annual Bluebirds Classic preseason tournament, Hutchinson Central Christian beat Canton-Galva 56-23 for first place in the girls bracket while the Goessel girls topped Burrton 38-23 for third place. Elyria beat Veritas 49-18 for fifth place.
The Goessel boys placed second with a 57-44 loss to Burrton Saturday, and the Canton-Galva boys placed third with a 46-36 win over Elyria. Veritas beat Central Christian 49-30 for fifth.
Goessel boys?The Bluebirds route to the championship game went through a 47-44 win over Elyria Thursday and a 53-22 victory over Central Christian on Friday. Weston Hiebert was the team?s leading scorer each night, averaging 11 per game for the tournament.
Goessel girls?Led by Kendra Flaming?s 11 points, which contributed greatly to her team-high scoring average of 8 points per game for the tournament, the Bluebirds defeated Elyria 39-15 Thursday. They ran into a powerhouse on Friday and fell to Central Christian 44-24 Friday.
Canton-Galva boys?The Eagles lost to Burrton 44-20 before pounding Veritas 42-31.
Canton-Galva girls?Having smacked down Burrton 40-26 on Thursday with 12 points from Kimmy Voth and 11 points from Tara Scott, the Eagles throttled Veritas 60-6. Scott scored 22 and Alyson Bressie added 16. Voth scored nine in the title game.
Coming?Canton-Galva visited Berean Academy Tuesday and will end 2009 with a visit from Lyons Friday.
Goessel hosts Argonia Friday and visits Trinity Dec. 22.
