GHS boys grab third

The Goessel Bluebirds boys? track and field team took third place at the Remington Invitational. The girls took eighth among 13 teams.

Kylee Nikkel set the tone for the girls with a personal-best shot put of 35 feet, 21⁄4 inches.

?Kylee?s shot-put performance was just outstanding today,? coach Vanessa Schroederr said. ?She set a career best by 11⁄2 feet.?

For the boys, Weston Hiebert (43.30) qualified for regionals in the 300-meter hurdles race. Travis Fensky qualified for regionals in the 100-meter dash.

Sheldon Goerzen won the 300 hurdles race in 40.59 seconds.

Craig Banman won the pole vault at 12-6. Brett Goerzen claimed third by clearing the same height but in more attempts. Garrett Hiebert won the javelin (167-2) and triple jump (43-21⁄2). He finished fifth in the 400 (54.29).

The 4×100 relay team of Brett Goerzen, Fensky, Sheldon Goerzen and Banman finished first in 44.96. The 4×400 unit took second in 3:33.
