Diener, Driggers lead HHS at Berean race

Hillsboro senior Abby Driggers covers the course at the Berean Invitational. She placed 22nd among 50 runners.The Hillsboro cross-country team joined runners from 13 other schools Thurs­day at the Berean Invita­tional at Harvey County East Lake.

Freshman Caleb Diener led the varsity boys by placing 12th in a field of 73 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 50 seconds.

Tristan Reed placed 18th in 19:20, Caleb Rempel finished 26th in 19:42, Tucker Moss was 45th in 20:28, Jason Latham finished 65th in 22:42 and Orin Blecha was 73rd in 28:04.

The race winner was Collin Oswald of Central with a time of 16:47.

As a team, the Trojans placed sixth among the seven schools who qualified for a team score. Hesston won the meet with 52 points; Hills­boro tallied 146.

Abby Driggers led the Trojan girls, placing 22nd in a field of 50 runners. Race times were not reported. Iris Klein placed 29th, Maddie Suder­man 45th and Millie Sechrist 47th.

“We had a very strong meet as a team,” coach Robert Haude said. “Many of our runners either (established a personal record) or had their best time of this season. These fast times for this meet are due to the hard work and dedication to improving each week.”

Coming—The Trojans will be competing Thursday at Sterling. Races begin at 3:30 p.m.
