Cross-Country Roundup (Oct. 21, 2009)

Peabody-Burns

?Lauren Pickens placed third in the four-kilometer girls? race, while Aaron Topham (second) and Sheldon Wiebe (ninth) finish near the front in the 5K boys? race at Harvey County East Park in the Warriors final HOA cross country league meet.

PBHS placed two honorable mention all-leaguers on the boys? side: Josh Klarmann (11th) and Jacob Simmonds (14th).

?Our third place finish for the boys team was a little disappointing,? coach Kim Topham said. ?However, they are ready to focus on regionals and qualifying for state as a team.?

With 60 points, PBHS just missed overtaking Bennington (57) for second place.

Berean Academy placed three runners in the top six and, with 35 points, literally ran away with the league title.

?The Bluebirds placed fifth with 152 points, as Derek Kruger (19th) and Laird Goertzen (22nd) led the way.

Canton-Galva

?Curtis Frederick led the Eagles with a 24th-place finish. CGHS placed seventh.
