Cochran leads MHS at 3A regional golf

Marion hosted a Class 3A regional golf tournament last Monday.

Ryan Cochran paved the way for Marion, qualifying for state by carding an 18-hole score of 98, good for ninth place among a field of 39 golfers.

Devin Soyez tied for 10th with a 99, missing qualifying for state by one stroke. Grant Leffler shot a 113 (27th), Hap Waddell 140 (38th) and Rowen Fay 178 (39th).

Southeast of Saline’s Jacob Huffaker shot two over par to win the meet with a 74.

As a team, Marion finished sixth of seven in the field with a score of 450. Southeast of Saline won with 387.

Cochran was unable to compete at the state meet as the result of an injury.

“Overall, I was pleased with the growth this season,” coach Scott Bauer said.
