CHS sweeps White City

The Centre High School basketball teams swept White City for the second time in as many weeks with the boys winning 55-48 and the girls winning 37-20 on Friday. Centre swept Flint Hills Christian Jan. 27 by a boys score of 56-47 and a girls score of 55-29.

The CHS boys improved to 7-6 on the season.

Centre girls?Allison Shields scored 11 points to lead the way against White City, and was supported by Carlye Simons (7 points), Ripley Howard (6), Shelby Deines (6), Leann Pankratz (5) and Josie Peterson (2).

Centre led 14-9 at halftime, and blew the game open with a 14-2 run in the third quarter.

Shields also scored 11 against Flint Hills Christian, and Deines scored 10.

A 15-4 first quarter put Flint Hills in a hole too deep to climb out of, and Centre ramped its lead to 25 with a 22-8 second quarter.

Centre boys?James Weber went 7-for-8 at the foul line and led all scorers with 17 points.

Brian Burhoop scored five in the first quarter, keying a 15-2 run in the opening frame.

Ben Krause hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15, and Trevor Troutt scored eight of his 10 points on 2-point field goals.

Weber completed his double-double with 10 rebounds.

Troutt posted 11 points against Flint Hills Christian, and Weber scored 11 to help the Cougars overcome two opponents in double-figures.

Centre led 15-7 through one quarter, and 30-17 at halftime. Flint closed the gap with a 14-13 third period, and scored 18 fourth quarter points to pull the final score within nine.

Coming?Centre visited Solomon Feb. 3, hosts Lebo Friday, and travels to Madison Tuesday.
