Behind James Weber?s 22 points, the Centre High School boys basketball team thumped White City 64-36 entering the winter break Dec. 16.
Trevor Troutt scored eight points in the fourth quarter and finished with 10, but the Cougars practically had the game on ice at halftime thanks to a 19-7 run in the second quarter.
CHS led 14-9 after the first. Weber scored two 2-pointers in the first and added two traditional 3-point plays as the Cougars pulled away in the second.
Tanner Brunner scored six, but also had 3 steals, 5 assists and 9 rebounds with only two turnovers on the night.
Ben Krause, Konley Harding and Cahn Antoszyk each scored 7 points.
The girls doubled up White City 56-28 in the early game behind 22 points from Shelby Deines and 16 from Leann Pankratz.
As powerful as the Cougars looked at the end of the night, White City actually led 8-5 after eight minutes thanks to six points from Hirt.
But Deines and Pankratz took charge in the second, combining for 14 points during an 18-9 rally.
Deines did her damage with a 7-for-10 stint at the foul line. Pankratz made the key basket, a layup-and-1, and the Cougars cruised to victory behind effective defense.
White City scored just 11 points in the second half; Deines and Pankratz totaled 20.
Centre resumes play Jan. 9 at Elyria.
