CG baseball wins 5 straight, scores 34 in doubleheader

Four more baseball victories last week boosted Canton-Galva?s winning streak to five games.

The Eagles pounded Sedgwick last Tuesday, 17-6, in the first game and 17-0 in three innings in the nightcap.

With home runs from Bryant Baldwin, Kolby Moddelmog and Codey?Johnson, the Eagles scored three runs in the third, four in the fourth and six in the fifth to build a 14-6 lead.

Neither team scored again until Canton-Galva put up three runs in the top of the seventh.

Johnson (1-2) got the pitching victory, striking out seven.

Johnson and Taylor Myers each had five runs batted, Moddelmog four.

In the nightcap, Canton-Galva scored 12 runs in the top of the first take a commanding lead.

Taylor Myers (2-1) did not give up a hit while the Eagles scored four in the second and one in the third to end the game by run rule.

Johnson and Moddelmog each had home runs with Johnson driving in four runs. Myers finished with a hit, a double and three RBIs.

On Friday, Canton-Galva swept Lyons at home, 4-2 and 8-7.

Tied at two in Game 1, the Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth for the 4-2 edge.

Johnson (2-2) won his second game, striking out seven and walking none. Myers hit a double and a triple, driving in three runs.

In Game 2, Canton-Galva scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk away with the victory. Lyons had tied the score at seven with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Myers started the game, pitching 52?3 innings and striking out six. He gave up the tying run in the sixth and did not get the pitching win. Instead, the victory went to Johnson (3-2), who struck out five Lions. At the plate, he had a double and two RBIs.

Canton-Galva (5-5) will host Moundridge Tuesday.
