Centre golf finishes first at Herington Invitational

The Centre High School golf team finished as the team on top of a tightly-bunched field at the 11-school Herington Invitational April 6.

The Cougars finished with a four-man total of 351 to edge Council Grove (352), Hillsboro (353), Marion (357), Halstead (358) and Goessel (360) in the upper tier of teams.

They were followed by Sedgwick (364), Peabody-Burns (374), Herington (387), Inman (404) and Southeast of Saline (435).

?This was a good start for this season, and with the windy conditions, I was pretty pleased with the performance,? said Centre coach Greg Wyatt.

Tyler Keplar of Council Grove won medalist honors with a 76 over 18 holes, one stroke ahead of Adam Matz of Centre and three strokes ahead of third-place finisher Daniel Kunantaev of Hillsboro.

? Hillsboro: Kunantaev (3rd, 79), Devin Dick (11th, 87), Jared King (21st, 92), Daniel Dick (30th, 95), Evan Just (59th, 126).

? Marion: Landon Leiker (6th, 85), Scott Jones (16th, 89), Adam Molleker (17th, 90), Lindsay Hett (24th, 93), Tim Costello (38th, 99), Jordan Versch (39th, 99).

? Goessel: Hayden Goerzen (4th, 83), Tyler Schmidt (7th, 85), Neal Brubaker (31st, 96), Austin Cooper (33rd, 96), Aaron Reimer (37th, 97), Jake Smucker (46th, 103).

? Peabody-Burns: Jacob Gillet (8th, 85), Jason Wingert (15th, 88), Trevor Foth (32nd, 96), Matt Hiebert (48th, 105), Tommy Morris (56th, 120), Sean Brunner (58th, 126).
