Centre drops opening games to Southeast of Saline

The Centre High School boys? basketball team jumped to an 18-7 lead over Southeast of Saline, but could not hold off the Trojans, who rallied for a 65-60 win Friday.

Saline posted a 22-point second quarter and closed the gap to 34-29 at halftime, and closed out the Cougars by winning both of the final two quarters.

Three players scored six points apiece during the opening frame: Brian Burhoop, James Weber, and Trevor Troutt each sank three 2-pointers. The baskets came less easily during the second quarter, as Centre went 7-for-11 from the foul line.

Saline centre Greg Peterson scored 12 points during the second period, and finished with 23 points.

Weber had 19 for CHS, and Troutt totaled 16.

The Trojans defeated the CHS girls 67-31 Friday, but additional information was not submitted prior to the print deadline.

Coming?Centre played its first games of the Herington Pre-Season Tournament Tuesday night, and will play Hope on Friday and Northern Heights on Saturday.

The girls play at 4 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday. The boys play at 5:30 Friday and at 3:30 Saturday.
