Northern Heights defeated the Centre boys 67-31 Saturday. Alex Hajek led CHS with 11 points. The Cougars played a more competitive game against Hope Friday and won, 55-52.
Eli Goracke scored 11 points in the first half and had Hope within 27-25 at the break. But Trevor Troutt and James Weber scored 7 points apiece during the third quarter, and Centre opened up a 45-39 lead.
Goracke scored 9 points in the fourth, but could not bring his team back. He totaled 26.
Ben Krause made five 3-pointers and led the Cougars with 18 points. Troutt finished with 17 and Weber finished with 7.
Playing at home, Herington defeated Centre 62-42 Dec. 9. Troutt led CHS with 16 points, but three Railers finished in double-digits: Derek Knapp (16), Jake Meyere (15), and Tyler Barber (12).
The Centre boys are 1-3 on the season.
The Centre High School girls basketball team fell to 1-3 with a 58-25 loss to Northern Heights Saturday. Leann Pankratz led the Cougars with 7 points.
The Cougars defeated Hope 45-23 on Friday behind 12 points from Shelby Deines. Deines scored five in the first quarter and Centre grabbed a 15-6 lead.
The Cougars never looked back, cranking the margin up to 29-10 at halftime and 41-17 through three quarters.
Herington edged Centre 49-42 on Dec. 9. Leann Pankratz scored 20 points?nine during the second quarter?and lifted CHS to a 26-24 halftime lead. Tied at 32 through three quarters, Brockmeier scored 10 points in the fourth to give Herington the win.
Coming?Centre played host to White City Tuesday and closes the book on 2008 hosting Wakefield Friday.
