Bluebirds take second at invitational

The Goessel Bluebirds competed in the Burrton Invitational on Thursday.

“The improvement of times for all the kids on a muddy, holey and root filled course is evidence of their commitment to improve and be the best they can be for the team,” said Coach Brian Lightner. “I am proud of all the kids for making the right decision on how to compete on this day.”

The boys and girls both placed 2nd in the meet behind Halstead.

Many on the team set new personal records as well as season bests. Several placed for medals.

For varsity girls, Elsie Clark finished 2nd at 21:45. Cassandra Rust was 10th with a time of 24:38.

For the varsity boys, Dawson Duerksen finished 8th at 18:18 while Adrian Kastner finished 9th at 18:24, and Jerah Schmidt finished 10th at 18:40.

Next up is a joint league meet on Thursday with the Heart of the Plains League back at West Lake hosted by Burrton. The girls at 4 and boys at 4:30.
