Area schools competed well at Burrton and Chapman last week.

Goessel?s Laird Goertzen placed second in the boys? race at Burrton, covering the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 48 seconds. For the girls, Brittny Czarnowsky placed third at 17:53 for the 21?2-mile race.

Canton-Galva also competed at Burrton, medaling two runners in the boys? varsity race: Eli Janzen (14th, 20:32) and Nathan Bray (15th, 20:39).

Haley O?Neil medaled in the girls? JV race, placing fourth in 23:35.

Peabody-Burns competed at Chapman. Sheldon Wiede and Matt Hiebert both earned medals in the boys? junior/senior race. Wiede was third in 18:22 and Hiebert 12th in 19:12.

Seth Topham and Zach Preheim both ran the freshman/sophomore race. Topham (21:51) placed 31st and Preheim (21:52) 32nd.

In the girls? junior/senior race, Amanda Pickens placed 22nd in 24:53 while teammate Heather Brooks finished 23rd in 25:31. Lauren Pickens did not compete.
