Canton-Galva

 

The Eagles went 2-3 at the eight-team Goessel Invitational on Saturday. They defeated Halstead (28-26, 25-9) and South Haven (25-21, 25-18) in pool play, qualifying for the championship bracket. But the Eagles lost to third-place Sedgwick (22-25, 25-22, 14-25), second-place Central Christian (15-25, 25-23, 16-25) and eventual champion Remington (16-25, 25-21, 23-25).

CGHS played a quadrangular at Bennington Sept. 4. The Eagles went 2-1, defeating Goessel (20-25, 25-23, 25-19) and Bennington (25-27, 25-18, 25-17) and losing to Hutch Trinity (12-25, 25-21, 21-25).

Canton-Galva played at Berean on Tuesday and will play at Marion on Saturday and at home Sept. 18.

Center

?The Cougars hosted an eight-team tournament on Saturday. Center played in a pool that included Little River (first place), Berean Academy (third place) and Marion.

The Cougars pushed Berean to three games in their opener, but came up short (23-25, 25-20, 18-25). CHS was lost to Little River (10-25, 16-25) and Marion (20-25, 21-25).

Centre added two wins to its record Sept. 4 at St. Xavier. The Cougars defeated the hosts (25-8, 25-9) and Flint Hills (25-8, 25-20).

Centre (3-5) played at home on Tuesday. The Cougars will play at Marion on Saturday and at Flint Hills on Sept. 18.

Goessel

The Bluebirds hosted an eight-team tournament Saturday. They beat Burrton (25-15, 25-12) and South Haven (25-18, 25-18), but lost to Halstead (23-25, 19-25-19), third place Sedgwick (22-25, 20-25) and eventual champion Remington (26-28, 20-25, 16-25).

Goessel went 1-2 at a Bennington quadrangular Sept. 4. The Bluebirds lost to Canton-Galva (25-20, 23-25, 19-25) and Hutchinson Trinity (18-25, 18-25) both defeated Bennington (21-25, 26-24, 24-26).

Goessel played at home Tuesday and will play at Tescott on Saturday and at Moundridge on Sept. 18.

Peabody-Burns

The Warriors made it to the championship match before losing to Inman (19-25, 21-25).

In pool play, PBHS defeated Elyria Christian (25-11, 25-12), Solomon (25-19, 27-25) and Tescott (25-15, 25-10). In the semifinals, the Warriors beat Wakefield (25-22, 26-24).

PBHS trailed 12-11 in the first game of the championship match, but Inman scored eight out of the next nine points to take control.

PBHS took a 9-4 lead in the second match and still led 17-12. But Inman runs of six and five points secured the win.

Becky Morris led the team with 39 kills, 42 digs and four blocks. Danielle Savage notched 19 kills, 20 digs and five blocks.

The Warriors (9-4) hosted a quadrangular Sept. 4 that included Sedgwick, Inman and Moundridge.

The Warriors went 1-2, defeating Sedgwick (25-17, 25-23) before losing to Inman (14-25, 10-25) and Moundridge (23-25, 9-25).

PBHS played Tuesday at Ell Saline and will be back in action Sept. 18 at Canton-Galva.
