For the second consecutive year, Peabody-Burn?s Lauren Pickens won a silver medal in the 400-meter run at the KU Relays.

Saturday in Lawrence, Pickens? time was 57.49 seconds; the winning time was 55.93 by Montenea Roy from St. Louis, Mo..

Pickens picked up three more gold medals Tuesday in a Central Kansas Track League meet hosted by Berean Academy. Still undefeated in short sprints, Pickens swept the 100, 200 and 400. Her times were 12.12 in the 100, 27.65 in the 200 and 58.98 in the 400.

Peabody-Burns is scheduled to compete Tuesday at Wichita Independent.

Goessel?The Bluebirds captured seven gold medals at Berean Tuesday. Tia Goertzen won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.81 and triple jump with a distance of 31-feet, 10 inches.

Aspen Frey posted a 5:58.59 on her way to a first-place finish in the 1,600.

John Berkholz earned individual gold in the 400, crossing the finish line at 54.64. Weston Hiebert won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.14.

Goessel swept the 4×400 meter relays, both boys and girls. The girls? 4×800 team also placed first. The Bluebird boys? 4×400 team finished in 3:40.58; the girls in 4:35.30. Frey, Jessica Harvey, Karina Harvey and Kendra Flaming comprised the girls? team.

Winning the 4×800 in 11:03.81 was Brittny Czarnowsky, Kendra Flaming, Karina Harvey and Frey.

Goessel will host a CKTL meet Tuesday and will travel to the Norwich Invitational Friday.
