Centre?The Cougars competed at the Class 1A regional meet at Burlington Friday.
The girls qualified for four events at the state meet May 24-25 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita by placing among the top four. Shelby Makovec was third in the 3,200 (13:44.69), Nellie Kassebaum fourth in the 3,200 (14:21.98) and Brenna Shields was fourth in the 100 (13.85) and the long jump (15 feet, 71?2 inches).
The Cougar boys qualified the 4×100 team for state. Grant Srajer, Justin Deines, Conner Montgomery and Houston Svoboda placed fourth in 46.69.
Goessel?The Bluebirds competed at the Class 1A regional meet at Burlington Friday.
The girls qualified for state in six events at Cessna Stadium in Wichita State University by placing among the top four. Tia Goertzen won the 100-meter hurdles (16.96) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.27). Ali Buller won the 800 (2:33.6). The 4×400 team of Page Hiebert, Goertzen, Buller, Erin Brubaker and alternate Aleena Cook finished second (4:28.7). Hiebert was third in the 400 (1:06.9). The 4×100 team of Buller, Cook, Goertzen, Hiebert and alternate Makayla King placed third (54.84).
The boys, meanwhile, qualified four events. Davis Cook won the triple jump (41-4), the 4×800 team of Ben Wiens, Grant Flaming, Nathan Czarnowsky, Cook and alternate Bjoern Schuemann was third (9:01.6); Heath Goertzen placed fourth in the triple jump (39-11.5) and Shane Goerzen was fourth in the 100 (12.19).
Peabody-Burns?The Peabody-Burns boys competed at the Class 2A regional meet at Herington Friday and qualified for state in four events.
Seth Topham placed second in high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), Lucas Larsen was third in javelin (152-8) and Corbin Rives fourth (151-7), and Braxton Kyle finished fourth in high jump (6-0).
?Eight personal records and two school records were set Friday evening,? coach Brian Lightner said. ?Topham?s jump of 6-4 tied him for the school record. Topham also broke the 56-year-old 110 hurdle record with his prelim time of 15.59.?
