GOESSEL at CENTRE—The Goessel Bluebirds handed the Centre Cougars a 71-36 loss Friday on the Cougars’ home court.

The visitors established a 19-8 lead after one quarter, fueled by 14 points from Brittney Hiebert. Goessel then expanded the lead with each additional quarter. The Bluebirds held a 13-12 edge at the end of second quarter, 20-14 in the third quarter and finished with a 19-2 fourth quarter.

Hiebert led all scorers with 25 points. Also scoring in double digits for Goessel were Han­non and Eden Hiebert with 12 points each.

For Centre, Kate Basore led the team with 12 points.

On Jan. 30, the Cougars defeated Solomon 44-32 in a Wheat State League game.

Centre led 10-4 after the first quarter, then extended the lead slightly to 17-10 by halftime.

Scoring picked up for both teams in the second half. Centre maintained a 12-9 edge in the third quarter, then closed out the victory with a 15-13 fourth quarter for the 12-point final margin.

Kelsey Hett paced the Cougars with 14 points, including eight in the final quarter. Three other Cou­gars contributed eight points each: Samantha Espinoza, Emily Schlesener and Kate Basore. Tierman scored 14 to lead Solomon; Robertson added 10.

COMING—Canton-Galva was scheduled to host Peabody-Burns on Tuesday, and will travel to Herington on Friday.

Centre was schedule to play at Elyria Christian on Tuesday and will take on Wakefield at home.

Goessel was scheduled to host Herington on Tuesday and will host Peabody-Burns on Friday.

Peabody-Burns was scheduled to play Canton-Galva Tuesday and at Goes­sel on Friday.
