GIRLS

Centre—The Cougars welcomed the Chase County Bulldogs to their gymnasium Friday, but the visitors took advantage of the hospitality and went on to defeat the home team, 46-33.

The Bulldogs led 10-4 after one quarter and 22-14 by halftime. Centre won the third quarter 7-4, but Chase County finished the game with a 20-12 final quarter to nail down the 13-point victory. Centre managed only one field goal in the quarter, but made 10 of 17 free throws.

It was game where both teams benefited from multiple scorers. Chase County’s Vandergraft led all scorers with 10 points, but seven of 12 players contributed to the final score.

Centre’s top scorer was Kelsey Hett with 9 points, but all eight players on the team contributed points as well.

The Cougars (9-8) will complete its regular season schedule with a Feb. 20 game at Peabody-Burns and a Feb. 23 matchup with Blue Valley-Randolph.

Canton-Galva 46, Centre 43. The Eagles used a 23-12 fourth quarter to upset the Cougars Tuesday at Canton.

The Eagles led 9-6 after one quarter, then increased the margin to 27-14 by halftime by outscoring the Cougars 18-8 in the second quarter.

The two teams had their lowest point production in the third quarter, with the Eagles holding a 7-6 edge.

Heading into the final quarter with a 34-20 deficit, the Cougars found their stroke. Centre made five field goals, including a three by Alyssa Espinoza, and hit 12 of 16 charities for 23 points, but the Eagles held on for the win by scoring 12 points.

Goessel—The Bluebirds blitzed Little River, 62-28, Tuesday at Goessel. The home team jumped in front 13-6 by the end of the first quarter. A 14-8 edge by the Bluebirds gave the home team a 27-14 halftime lead.

Goessel pushed the lead to 36-23 through three quarters, but saved its best quarter to the last one as they outscored the Redskins, 22-5, for the final 34-point victory.

Eden Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 22 points and Stephany Meyer added 10. As a team, Goessel outshot Little River 38 percent (25-65) to 23 percent (9-40).

BOYS

Centre 63, Canton-Galva 28. The Cougar used a 20-5 first quarter as a springboard to a 35-point win over the Eagles Tuesday at Canton.

Cole Srager scored nine of his game-high 16 points in the opening quarter to pace the Cougars.

The two teams battled more evenly in the second quarter, but Centre expand­ed its lead with an 18-14 edge for 39-28 lead at halftime.

Centre outscored Canton-Galva 15-6 in the third quarter and 10-3 in the fourth quarter for the substantial 35-point victory.

Kinser Colgin scored 12 points to lead the Eagles, who are 0-6 in the Wheat State League and 1-11 for the season. Pearson added nine for Canton-Galva.

First-place Centre, with 11 players contributing points during the game, improved to 8-1 and 14-4.

Goessel—The Bluebirds lost a non-league game to the Little River Redskins Tues­day by a 68-35 score at Goessel.

The visitors took charge early with a 25-10 first quarter. They increased the margin to 43-18 by halftime with an 18-8 second quarter.

Little River slightly outscored Goessel, 13-11, in the third quarter, but Blue­birds claimed the final quarter, 14-4, to narrow the final margin to 33 points.

Jordan Griffin led Goessel with 14 points and Carson Sterk added 8. Jay Garrison of Little River led all scorers with 27 points.
