GIRLS

• Goessel opened the season with a heartbreaking 54-53 non-league loss at Inman Dec. 1.

The Teutons led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter and 22-13 by halftime. Goessel cut Inman’s lead to 29-25 after three quarters, then outscored Inman, 9-6, in the final quarter only to lose by one point.

Eden Hiebert led Goessel with 12 points and pulled down five rebounds. Brittney Hiebert added eight points and seven rebounds. Abby Hannon scored seven points.

The Bluebirds (1-0) will be hosting the Bluebird Classic Dec. 4-9 with Central Chris­tian, Little River, Burrton, Can­ton-Galva and Elyria Chris­tian participating.

Goessel was to open play at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 against Can­ton-Galva, then will take on Burrton at 7 p.m. Dec. 8. Their third game on Dec. 9 will be determined by tournament results.

• Canton-Galva played fellow Wheat State League team Rural Vista in its season opener, but came up on the short end of a 53-45 final score.

The two teams were tied at 13 after one quarter, but Rural Vista took control in the second period with a 26-8 scoring advantage. The Eagles rallied to win the second half, 24-14, but it was too little, too late.

The Eagles will compete at the Bluebird Classic in Goessel this week. The team opened play against Burrton on Monday and played Goes­sel on Tuesday. Their final opponent on Saturday will be determined by tournament results.

• Centre defeated Central Christian, 46-42, in their Dec. 1 season opener at Hutchinson. The Cougars started slowly, trailing 6-1 at the first break. By halftime Central Christian led, 15-9.

The game turned around in the third period as Centre outscored the home team, 22-8. The scoring surge provided enough momentum to nail down the four-point victory.

This week, the Cougars will be participating in the Herington Pre-Season Tournament Dec. 5-9. Centre was were scheduled to play Wichita Classical at 4 p.m. Dec. 5, Lebo at 4 p.m. Dec. 7/8, and Rural Vista at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9.

• Peabody-Burns struggled at Herington in the War­riors’ season opener Dec. 1, losing to the Railers, 41-13. Tori Pickens scored 10 of her team’s 13 points.

This week Peabody-Burns is scheduled to play at a pre-season tournament in Marion. Peabody-Burns was to play Eureka Dec. 4 and Berean Academy Dec. 7.

Their final opponent at the tournament will be determined by tournament results.

BOYS

• Goessel absorbed a 49-24 loss at Inman go begin the new season. The Bluebirds struggled in the first half in particular. The Teutons shut out Goessel 12-0 in the opening quarter and built a 27-4 lead by halftime.

The Bluebirds picked up their game in the second half with a 12-15 performance in the third quarter and winning the final quarter, 8-7.

Jordan Griffin scored 14 points to lead Goessel, with Dylan Lindeman adding 5.

Griffin also led the team in rebounding by securing eight of the team’s 24 rebounds. Carson Sterk added five and Lindeman four.

Goessel (0-1) will participate in the Bluebird Classic Dec. 4-9 with Central Chris­tian, Little River, Burrton, Can­ton-Galva and Elyria Chris­tian participating. Goessel was to play Canton-Galva on Tuesday

• Canton-Galva dropped a 50-36 decision Dec. 1 at Rural Vista to open the season. The Eagles got off to a slow start as Rural Vista established a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Eagles rallied to edge Rural Vista, 11-10, in the second quarter to trail the home team, 24-17, at halftime.

The third quarter was just as close, with the Eagles coming up on the short end at 12-11. Rural Vista secured the win with a 14-8 edge in the final quarter.

The Eagles will play in the Bluebird Classic Dec. 4-9. The team was to play Burr­ton on Monday, Dec. 4, and Goessel on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Their third opponent on Saturday, Dec. 9, will be determined by tournament results.

• Centre lost its season opener at Central Christian in Hutchinson, 67-54.

This week Peabody-Burns was scheduled to play at the tournament in Marion. The Warriors were to play Eureka on Dec. 4 and Berean Academy on Dec. 7. Their final opponent at the tournament will be determined by tournament results.
