AREA HOOPS ROUNDUP (December 20, 2017)

GIRLS

• Goessel rolled to its fourth win of the season against one loss with an easy 58-18 win at Wakefield. The Bluebirds jumped to a 16-1 lead after one quarter and 32-10 by halftime. Goessel scored 21 points in the third quarter for a 48-15 lead, which prompted a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Eden Hiebert contributed 25 points and 10 rebounds to the victory. Brittney Hiebert added 10 points, Abby Han­non nine and Leah Booton eight points. Nelms led Wakefield with 10 points.

The Bluebirds has a game scheduled at Rural Vista Dec. 19 and will resume competition Jan. 5 at Solomon.

• Canton-Galva va. Centre. The Eagles defeated the Cougars, 44-38, in overtime, Dec. 15 at Centre. The Eagles led 12-8 after one quarter, but Centre rallied to within three points at halftime, 20-17.

When the Cougars managed only four points in the third period, Canton-Galva pushed its lead to 31-22, but Centre sent the game into extra minutes with a 13-4 fourth quarter rally.

The Eagles’ Tia Moddel­mog scored six of her team’s nine points in overtime, while she and her teammates allowed Centre only three points.

Moddelmog led all scorers with 22 points. Bell added 10 point and Mastre eight for the Eagles.

Kelsey Hett led Centre with 12 points, Kate Basore added 10 and Samantha Espinoza nine.

Canton-Galva will return to action Jan. 5 with a Wheat State League game at Little River. Centre resumes play the same day with a game at Herington.

• Peabody-Burns slipped to 0-5 for the season with a 50-26 loss Dec. 12 against Burrton. The War­riors were scheduled to play at Little River Dec. 15 and at Centre Dec. 19 before taking a holiday break. Play will resume Jan. 5 when Rural Vista comes to town.

BOYS

• Goessel lost a hard-fought game Dec. 15 against Wakefield, 58-52. Wakefield led 15-8 after one quarter, 28-26 at halftime and 46-38 after three quarters.

Dylan Lindeman led Goessel with 24 points while Jordan Griffin added 14. Jackson led Wakefield with 16 points and Ghent and Merritt each added 11.

• Canton-Galva vs. Centre. The Cougars defeated the Bluebirds, 55-33, Dec. 15. Canton-Galva slipped to 1-5 for the season while Centre improved to 3-2.

Canton-Galva will return to action Jan. 5 with a Wheat State League game at Little River. Centre resumes play the same day with a game at Herington.
