Canton-Galva?The Eagles participated in the Bluebird Classic at Goessel last week.

The girls opened with a 58-26 victory over Burrton Monday. They followed with a 45-27 loss to eventual-champion Little River Friday.

The Eagle girls then faced Elyria Christian Saturday for third place. Canton-Galva won, 40-30.

The Canton-Galva boys, meanwhile, opened the tournament Monday with a 47-41 loss to Burrton, and followed with a 48-39 loss to eventual champion Little River Friday.

That pitted the Eagles against Elyria Christian for fifth place Saturday. Canton-Galva won handily, 60-18. In that game, Nick Bray led the Eagles with 20 points. Cody Savage added 11 and Travis Unruh 10.

Little River won the tournament with a 60-56 victory over Central Christian.

The Eagles were scheduled to compete at Ell-Saline Tuesday and will play at Marion Thursday.

Centre?The Cougars participated in the Herington preseason tournament last week.

The Centre girls lost to Northern Heights Thursday, 58-35. Shelby Makovec and Cacey Simons accounted for all of Centre?s points with 19 and 16, respectively.

Centre then defeated Rural Vista, 53-42, Saturday to improve to 2-1 overall. Bryanna Svoboda led the Cougars with 13 points. Makovec added 12.

The Centre boys, meanwhile, defeated Herington, 72-48, Tuesday. Ty Simons led the attack with a game-high 31 points, followed by Conner Montgomery with 14. Simons had a double-double with 17 rebounds.

The boys followed with a 50-46 victory over Northern Heights Thursday. Ty Simons and Grant Srajer led the Cougar attack with 14 points apiece. Simons had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Kyle Methvin grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Centre boys then lost to Southeast of Saline, 56-43, Saturday, to move to 2-1 on the season. Ty Simons led the Cougar attack with 21 points.

The Cougars were scheduled to play at Elyria Chris?tian Tuesday and will travel to Bennington Friday.

Goessel?The Bluebirds hosted the Bluebird Classic last week.

The girls opened with a 48-12 victory over Central Christian Tuesday. Page Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 16 points.

The girls then defeated Elyria Christian Friday, 43-25. Hiebert tossed in 18 points, followed by Alicen Meysing with 10.

With the two victories, the Goessel girls faced Little River in the championship game, but dropped a 45-38 decision to move to 2-2 on the season. Aleena Cook and Meysing rach scored 13 points.

The Goessel boys, meanwhile, dropped their opening game to Central Christian Tuesday, 64-46. Lawton Makovec led the Bluebirds with 19 points.

The boys followed with a 65-34 victory over Elyria Christian Friday. Makovec scored a game-high 24 points. Kellen Froese added 11.

That pitted the Bluebird boys against Burrton to play for third place Saturday. Goessel won, 51-40, to improve its season record to 2-2. Makovec led with 23 points. Zach Wiens added 11 rebounds.

Little River placed first with a 60-56 victory over Central Christian.

Goessel will play at Wakefield Friday.

Peabody-Burns?The Peabody-Burns Warriors competed at the Marion Classic last week.

The Warrior girls opened with a 34-23 loss to Eureka Thursday. Brianna Larsen led the Warriors with 11 points.

The girls followed with a 61-23 loss to Remington Friday. Christa Elliott led with a game-high 13 points.

PBHS concluded the tournament with a 37-29 loss to Belle Plaine to move to 0-4 on the season. Larsen led with a game-high 11 points. Jordan Gibson grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Warrior boys, meanwhile, opened with a 70-48 loss to Eureka Thursday. Braxton Kyle led the Warriors with 17 points.

The boys followed with a 46-41 victory over Remington Friday. Kyle led with 13 points, followed by Xavier Jabary and Vince Newman with 10 apiece.

The Peabody-Burns boys concluded the tournament with a 67-30 loss to Berean Academy to move to 1-3 on the season. Kyle led with eight points.

The Warriors were scheduled to play at Burrton Tuesday and will travel to Berean Friday.
