Canton-Galva?The eighth-seeded Eagle girls lost to No. 1 Sterling 60-28 Monday in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A sub-state basketball tournament hosted by Berean Academy.

The girls concluded the season with a 6-16 record.

The sixth-seeded Eagle boys, meanwhile, lost to No. 3 Moundridge 62-36 Tuesday in the quarterfinals. The boys concluded the season with a 6-15 record.

Centre?The top-seeded Centre girls won the Class 1A, Division I sub-state hosted by Hartford to earn a trip to state with a 58-27 victory over No. 2 Lebo Satur?day. Cacey Simons led the Cougars with 17 points. Makenzie Deines and Shelby Makovec each added 14.

After a first-round bye, Centre defeated No. 5 Hart?ford 68-27 in the semifinals. Makovec scored 26 points, Amy Makovec added 12.

The No. 1 seeded Centre boys enjoyed a first-round bye at sub-state, then lost to No. 5 Hartford 78-66 in the semifinals. Ty Simons led with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Conner Mont?gomery added 18 points.

Hartford went on to win the tournament with a 61-31 victory over No. 3 Goessel.

The Centre boys concluded the season with an record of 12-9.

With the sub-state championship, the Centre girls will compete in the Class 1A Division I state tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia this week.

As the No. 4 seed at 20-3, Centre will face No. 5 Osborne (19-3)?at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. The winner will face either No. 1 Hoxie (23-0) or No. 8 Spearville (13-9) in a semifinal matchup at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The other half of the bracket includes No. 2 Valley Heights (22-1), No. 7 Victoria (14-9), No. 3 St. Paul (21-2) and No. 6 Caldwell (17-6).

The championship will be played Saturday at 4 p.m.

Goessel?The third-seeded Bluebird girls enjoyed a first-round bye in the Class 1A Division I sub-state hosted by Hartford, then lost to No. 2 Lebo 42-36 Friday in the semifinals.

Page Hiebert scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Alicen Meysing had 13 rebounds to go with her nine points.

The Goessel girls finished the season at 8-13.

The third-seeded boys enjoyed a first-round bye at sub-state, then defeated No. 2 Flinthills 53-19 in the semifinals Thursday.

Ben Wiens led with 17 points, eight steals and six rebounds. Reece Hiebert scored 14 points and had eight rebounds. Lawton Makovec also scored 14 points.

Goessel lost to No. 5 Hartford Saturday in the championship, 61-31.

The boys finished the season at 9-13.

Peabody-Burns?The seventh-seeded Warrior boys lost to No. 2 Hillsboro 64-26 in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A sub-state hosted at Berean Academy Tuesday.

Braxton Kyle led with six points and six rebounds.

The Warriors ended their season with record of 6-15.
