BASEBALL

Canton-Galva—The Eagles lost two games to Bennington Tuesday.

Canton-Galva lost Game 1, 12-4. The Eagles scored all four runs in the first inning, but Bennington took the lead with a five-run third inning.

Devyn Elkins absorbed the pitching loss.

Reed Wiens was 2-for-3 at-bat. Ethan Loyd, Elkins, Zach Snow and Collin Reissig were each 2-for-4. Elkins hit a double and had one RBI.

The Eagles lost Game 2, 7-5. Canton-Galva led, 5-2 through six innings, but Bennington scored five in the seventh to claim the win.

Reed Wiens sustained the pitching loss, giving up five hits and no earned runs. He walked one batter and struck out six. Canton-Galva committed six errors.

Hunter Pearson was 3-for-4 at-bat and had one RBI.

Canton-Galva swept Lincoln-Sylvan Grove Thursday.

The Eagles won Game 1, 14-4, in six innings, using a five-run first inning to take control early.

Jordan Gagnebin earned the pitching win. He gave up four hits and one earned run in six innings of work while walking two batters and striking out seven.

Devyn Elkins and Collin Reissig were each 3-for-4 at-bat and had two RBIs apiece. Reed Wiens drove in three runs on 2-for-5 hitting.

Canton-Galva completed the sweep with a 13-10 victory in Game 2.

The Eagles trailed 8-4 through four innings but scored five runs in the fifth inning. Sylvan Grove scored two in the sixth to reclaim the lead, but the Eagles nailed down the victory by scoring four in that frame.

Ethan Loyd earned the pitching win in relief of starter Travis Unruh. Loyd scattered two hits and two earned runs in three innings of work while walking one batter and striking out two.

Wiens was 4-for-4 at-bat and had four RBIs.

The Eagles were scheduled to host Sedgwick Monday. They will host Remington Thursday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Canton-Galva—The Eagles competed at Hillsboro May 2 in a meet rescheduled from April 29.

Katie Fiedler highlighted the girls’ efforts by winning the 200 with a time of 27.5 seconds. Fiedler placed second in the 100 (12.81). Her preliminary time in that event (12.55) set a new Canton-Galva school record.

Meanwhile, Dylan Wood placed second in the 400 (55.43) to lead the Eagle boys.

The Eagles traveled to the Moundridge Invitational Tuesday.

The girls earned three silver medals to lead the team. Fiedler earned two of them, placing second in the long jump (15-71/4) and in the 100 (12.94). Maddie Snow finished second in the 400 (1:04.39).

Lane Wiens was the boys’ highest finisher, placing fifth in the 1,600 (5:17.09).

The Eagles were scheduled to participate in a freshman/sophomore meet at Moundridge Monday and will travel to Marion for the Heart of America league meet Friday.

Centre—The Cougars participated at the Steve Herrmann Invitational at Herington Thursday.

Xavier Espinoza led the boys’ team by winning the 400 with a time of 54.7 seconds.

As a team, the boys finished tied for seventh of 10 with 22 points. Solomon won with 144.

Meanwhile, Kate Basore led the girls by placing fourth in the javelin (117-7). As a team, the girls finished ninth with four points. Berean Academy won with 154.

Centre will compete at the Wheat State League meet Thursday at Goessel.
