Centre?The Cougars lost to Moundridge, 3-1, Tuesday in a best-of-five format. Moundridge won the first set, 25-15, but Centre answered with a 25-22 win in Set 2. Moundridge then won the next two sets, 25-15, 25-22.

Shelby Makovec led Centre with two ace serves.

The Cougars fell one game short of a Wheat State League tournament title Saturday at Rural Vista.

In pool play, Centre defeated Wakefield (25-10, 25-10), Rural Vista (25-13, 25-17) and Little River (18-25, 25-22, 25-17). The Cougars defeated Solomon in semifinals, 25-10, 25-9, but fell to Goessel in the finals, 25-13, 25-22.

Cacey Simons led with 35 kills, Makenzie Deines managed eight blocks and Shelby Makovec had 18 ace serves.

The Cougars (25-9) will participate in the Class 1A, Div. I sub-state tournament at Goessel Saturday. Also competing are Burrton, Goessel, Hartford, Centre, Pretty Prairie and Flinthills.

Goessel?The Bluebirds went 2-1 Tuesday at Inman.

Goessel defeated Little River (26-24, 25-21) then fell to Ellinwood (25-16, 25-17). The Bluebirds concluded the day with a 25-21, 25-19 win over Inman.

Goessel was a perfect 5-0 at the Wheat State League tournament at Rural Vista Saturday.

In pool play, Goessel defeated Elyria Christian (25-15, 25-11), Solomon (25-19, 25-10) and Peabody-Burns (25-18, 25-9). The Bluebirds then beat Rural Vista in the semifinals, 24-26, 25-15, 25-16, to face Centre in the championship.

Goessel defeated the Cougars, 25-13, 25-22, to claim the tournament title for the third consecutive year.

The Bluebirds (29-8) will host the Class 1A, Div. I sub-state tournament Saturday. Also competing are Burrton, Hartford, Centre, Pretty Prairie and Flinthills.

FOOTBALL

Canton-Galva?The Eagles defeated Pretty Prairie 58-22 Friday night.

Canton-Galva (4-3) will play at Little River (4-3) Friday at 7 p.m. Little River fell to Solomon, 50-0, last week.

Centre?The Cougars defeated Hartford, 42-0, Friday night.

Kyle Methvin scored Centre?s first touchdown on an 11-yard run and later connected with Justin Bina on a 32-yard scoring strike for a 12-0 first-quarter lead.

Chad Mueller returned a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown with 6:11 left before halftime, and Dakota Stimpson added the 2-point conversion.

Methvin added a 7-yard touchdown run 58 seconds before intermission, and Centre led 28-0 at halftime following a Stimpson pass to Terran Thompson for the 2-point conversion.

In the second half, Methvin added touchdowns of 42 and 6 yards. His 2-point conversion pass to Bina was complete after the last touchdown for a final score of 42-0.

Centre recorded 211 yards rushing, while limiting Hartford to 37 carries for 23 yards. Methvin led the Cougars with 15 carries for 121 yards. Methvin was 3-for-6 passing for 45 yards. Hart?ford was 11-for-18 for 102 yards and one interception.

The Cougars (6-2) will host Flinthills (1-6) Friday at 7 p.m. Last week, Flinthills lost to Peabody-Burns, 48-0.

Goessel?The Bluebirds lost a 44-28 decision to Chase Friday night.

Goessel led 22-16 at halftime, but Chase outscored the Bluebirds 28-6 in the second half.

The Bluebirds recorded 143 yards rushing, led by Kellen Froese with 20 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns. In the passing game, Chase Flaming was 8-for-21 for 110 yards.

Brian Hiebert led the defense with 12 tackles. Mark Schmidt added 11.

Goessel (2-5)?will host White City (2-5) Friday at 7 p.m. White City defeated Tescott 50-0 last week.

Peabody-Burns?The Warriors posted a 48-0 win over Flinthills Friday.

Peabody-Burns scored 30 points in the first quarter and added 12 more before halftime. Six third-quarter points capped the scoring for the evening.

The Warriors recorded 330 yards rushing, led by Fred Winsor with 15 carries for 155 yards and four touchdowns. Braxton Kyle rushed 14 times for 134 yards. Kyle was 1-for-2 passing for 23 yards and one touchdown.

Xavier Jabary led the defense with six total tackles.

At 7 p.m. Friday Peabody-Burns (6-1)?will host Madi?son/Hamilton (7-0), who defeated Burlingame 62-14 last week.
