Canton-Galva?Lane Wiens paced the Eagle boys at Marion Tuesday, finishing 17th in 20 minutes, 41 seconds.
Brittany Dieker led the girls with a 30th-place finish in 19:49.
In junior varsity action, Cash Toews placed eighth in the boys? race in 22:13.
For the junior varsity girls, Julia Gormley finished fifth (21:14), Kaylee Littrell 13th (24:06) and Krystal May 16th (25:54).
The Eagles will compete at Halstead Thursday.
Centre?The Cougars ran at Marion Tuesday. CJ Thompson led the boys, medalling by placing 15th in 20 minutes, 36 seconds. James Spohn was 33rd (22:16).
Nellie Kassebaum led the girls with a 21st-place finish (18:37). Cassy Thompson was 45th (28:52).
Centre will compete at Halstead Thursday.
Goessel?The Bluebirds competed at Southeast of Saline Tuesday.
Jen Meysing medalled for the girls by placing 19th in a field of 73 with a time of 17 minutes, 50 seconds. Rachel Manis was 28th (18:27), Julia Nightengale 47th (personal best 19:49), Lauren Rymill 52nd (20:15) and Laura Volze 58th (21:09).
As a team, the girls placed seventh among 21.
Zach Wiens led the boys by finishing 69th of 89 in 21:56. Leighton Wagner was 76th (22:57), Aaron Woelk 86th (24:55) and Dane Kruger 87th (25:05).
In the junior varsity race, Max Keyse placed 19th (22:15), Maddy Meier 24th (23:29), Heidi Sandnes 28th (personal best 23:44), Johannah Hastings 29th (personal best 24:33) and Bekah Herrel 36th (32:01).
Goessel is scheduled to compete at the Berean Invitational at Harvey County East Thursday. Races are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
FOOTBALL
Canton-Galva?The Eagles defeated Wichita Life Prep, 58-26, Friday. Canton-Galva enjoyed a 36-12 lead at halftime. The Eagles (3-1) will travel to Central Plains (4-0) Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
Centre?The Cougars lost to Rural Vista Friday, 60-14. Centre (1-3) will host Burr?ton (0-4) Friday at 7 p.m.
Goessel?The Bluebirds defeated Sylvan-Lucas Friday, 40-32, for their first win of the season. Goessel led 24-20 at halftime.
The Bluebirds tallied 354 rushing yards, led by Josh Schmidt with 17 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown. Kellen Froese added 17 carries for 109 yards and a score. Through the air, Chase Flaming was 1-for-7 for 21 yards. Luke Unruh led the defense with 10 tackles.
Goessel (1-3) travels to Little River (2-2) Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
Peabody-Burns?The Warriors maintained their unbeaten record with a 46-0 shutout at Solomon Friday.
Peabody-Burns recorded 204 rushing yards, led by Clayton Philpott with 10 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns. In the passing game, Braxton Kyle was 2-for-5 for 59 yards and a score. Dakota Reynolds led the defense with six tackles.
Peabody-Burns (4-0) travels to Flinthills (1-3) Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
VOLLEYBALL
Canton-Galva?The Eagles placed fourth at the Herington tournament Saturday. In pool play, Canton-Galva lost to Council Grove (17-25, 25-21, 21-25) and Centre (25-14, 20-25, 25-27) then defeated Herington (25-15, 25-16).
The Eagles then lost to Rural Vista (21-25, 25-23, 16-25) and Council Grove a second time (24-26, 19-25).
The Eagles were scheduled to compete at Mound?ridge Tuesday and will host a tournament Saturday.
Centre?The Cougars went 1-2 at Herington Saturday. Centre lost to the host team, 15-25, 25-12, 6-25. Brenna Shields, Carlotta Benning and Summer Espinoza each had one block.
The Cougars defeated Canton-Galva, 14-25, 25-20, 27-25. Benning led with two kills and three blocks. Shields added two ace serves.
Centre then lost to Council Grove, 24-26, 18-25. Espinoza led the attack with two kills. Kate Basore added two blocks.
The Cougars won two games at Wakefield Tues?day. Centre defeated Pea?body-Burns, 25-12, 25-11. Espinoza served five aces. Shields, Benning and Espin?oza added two kills.
Centre then defeated the host team, 25-16, 25-19. Shelby Makovec had three ace serves. Espinoza led the attack with 12 kills.
The Cougars were scheduled to compete at home Tuesday and will travel to Peabody-Burns Oct. 7.
Goessel?The Bluebirds won the Olpe Round Robin tournament Saturday with victories over Madison (25-16, 25-19), Northern Heights (25-13, 25-18), Wabaunsee (25-23, 18-25, 25-18), Peabody-Burns (25-13, 25-12) and Olpe (25-14, 25-13).
The Bluebirds won two games at Little River Tues?day, defeating Solomon (25-7, 25-11) and the host school (25-9, 25-14).
Goessel, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A-Div. 1 at 21-0, was scheduled to conclude league play at home Tuesday. The Bluebirds will compete at Canton-Galva Saturday.
Peabody-Burns?The Warriors lost two games at the Wakefield triangular Tuesday.
Wakefield defeated Pea?body-Burns, 25-19, 25-16. Brianna Larsen led the attack with six kills and two ace serves. Katy Benson had five kills and two ace serves, and Rylie McDowell led with seven assists. Mallory Harris had nine digs.
Centre then defeated the Warriors, 25-12, 25-11. Larsen led with two kills. Benson had three assists, and Harris had four digs.
The Warriors were scheduled to compete at Elyria Christian Tuesday and will compete at home Oct. 7.
