AREA CROSS-COUNTRY ROUNDUP

Area cross-country runners competed at Topham Farms Thursday for the Peabody-Burns cross-country meet.

The Canton-Galva and Goessel boys? teams finished ninth and 10th, respectively. No area girls? teams competed in the team competition.

Peabody-Burns? Sheldon Wiebe placed sixth on his home course in 19 minutes, 40 seconds. On his heels was Goessel?s Laird Goertzen, who finished in 19:41 for eighth place.

PBHS?s Matt Hiebert missed a medal by three spots, placing 23rd in 21:01.

Canton-Galva?s top finisher was junior Curtis Evans. He placed 28th in 21:35.11.

PBHS?s Lauren Pickens was the area girls? top finsher, placing sixth in 18:11.00. Goessel junior Brittny Czarnowsky finished 12th in 18:27.72.

The area teams will see each other again Thursday at the Marion meet at the Marion Country Club.
