Goessel

?The Goessel High School cross country teams ran an early season 2-mile race at Clearwater on Thursday.

Marius Schrewe led the boys to the finish with a time of 12 minutes, 34 seconds, and placed 11th out of 59 juniors and seniors.

Jake Schrag (13:40, 28th), Chris Johnston (13:46, 30th) and Anthony Esau (14:04, 33rd) finished 24 seconds apart in the upperclassmen division.

Travis Duerksen (15:36, 51st) and Matt Johnston (16:01, 53rd) also finished for Goessel.

Jared Reimer (12:36, 17th) led the GHS underclassmen to the finish. There were 110 runners involved in the freshman and sophomore boys division.

Laird Goertzen (13:09, 40th), Chad Wedel (13:49, 56th), Isaac Fast (13:54, 62nd) and Derek Kruger (14:24, 75th) rounded out the boys side.

On the girls side, Jessika Jesse (19:55, 52nd) and Julia Draeger (23:49, 57th) finished the upperclassmen race.

Underclassmen Kristen Hoffman (13:49, 10th), Sara Boman (15:58, 37th) and Lindsey Wedel (16:08, 41st) all finished in the top half of the field of 87.

Peabody-Burns

The PBHS boys kicked off their 2007 season with a 5-kilometer run at Clearwater on Thursday.

Aaron Topham led the boys to the line with a time of 19:03, good for 19th place.

Josh Klarmann (19:37, 27th), Kendall Wiebe (19:48, 32nd) and Ryan Wiebe (19:52, 33rd) all finished under the 20 minute mark.

Curtis Frederick (21:09, 50th), Ethan Riggs (21:44, 52nd) and Seth Methvin (22:40, 57th) rounded out the Warriors top seven.

Sheldon Wiebe ran a 12:47 2-mile time, finishing 26th in the underclassmen boys race.

On the girls side, Lauren Pickens finished four kilometers in 19:03 and 28th place.

Sam Pickens (20:08, 53rd) and Erica Frederick (21:36, 56th) ran the 2-mile upper classmen race. Heather Brooks (21:29, 87th) ran in the underclassmen race.

Canton-Galva

The Canton- Galva High School cross country squad kicked off its 2007 season at Lincoln on Thursday.

Freshman Nathan Bray led the Eagles to the line in the boys 5-kilometer race, finishing with a time of 23:11 in 19th place.

Sophomore Samuel Janzen (23:37, 22nd) improved his time by 3:30 compared to the same race last year. Riley Nigh (25:28, 35th), Nicholas Skiles (26:26, 40th) and Codey Johnson (27:07, 44th) finished nearly together. The Eagle boys placed 7th as a team.

Tad Wedelboth sat out with an injury, but is expected to run next week.

On the girls side, Michelle Shannon ran the 2-mile race instead of the 4k, finishing 36th with a time of 18:05.

Caitlin Nelson sat out and is not expected back for the next race on the schedule.

Coming?All three teams are slated to run at Hesston on Thursday, with the first races set for 4 p.m.
