Area Basketball Roundup (Feb. 24, 2010)

Goessel and Canton-Galva squared off in area action Friday night. The Bluebirds swept the varsity games with the boys winning, 56-34. The girls downed the Eagles, 30-24.

The win over Canton-Galva completed a 2-0 week for the Bluebird boys. Goessel came away with a 47-36 win over Ell-Saline Tuesday. The Goessel girls fell to Ell-Saline 38-32, finishing the week 1-1.

Canton-Galva teams finished winless for the week. Tuesday the boys and girls fell to Berean Academy. The girls lost 57-33, the boys 56-21.

Friday?s game completed the regular season for Goessel. Canton-Galva wraps up its regular season Tuesday at Bennington.

Goessel?s next action will be March 1-6 in the 2A Herington sub-state tournament.

Also playing out the regular season, Peabody-Burns finished the week 1-3. The Warrior boys picked up the win Friday against Ell-Saline, 57-31. The girls fell, 43-32. On Tuesday, Peabody was swept by Hutchinson Trinity. The Warrior boys fell, 45-43, the girls lost, 42-39.

The Warriors? next action will be March 1-6 when they join Canton-Galva and Goessel at Herington.

Centre finished its regular season Friday splitting against Chase County. The Cougar boys downed the Bulldogs, 51-47,while the girls fell, 52-37.

The Cougar boys finished up as the last Eisenhower League basketball champions Tuesday on parent?s night against Wakefield. The boys lost, 56-51, the girls won, 39-28.

Centre starts 1A regional play this week in the Little River Regional. No. 4 seeded Centre boys played No. 5 seeded Little River Monday night.

The No. 5 seed Centre girls play No. 4 seed Elyria-Christian Tuesday.
