Four players and the coach from Hillsboro High School?s state champion volleyball team received all-state recognition this week from the Kansas Volleyball Association coaches.
Junior Tena Loewen, the Trojans? 5-foot-11 outside hitter was named Class 3A Player of the Year as well a first-team selection.
Krista Reimer, a 5-9 senior middle blocker was selected for the second team.
Receiving honorable mention were Callie Serene, a 5-7 senior setter, and Danae Bina, a 5-4 sophomore libero.
Sandy Arnold was named Coach of Year in 3A for guiding the Trojans to a 39-6 record her first state title in eight seasons at HHS. Arnold?s teams have qualified for state six years?including four in a row?while compiling a record of 233-75, which is a winning percentage of 75.6.
Goessel?In Class 1A Division 1, three players from the state-qualifying Goessel Bluebirds received state recognition from the KVA.
Paige Booton, a 5-6 senior outside hitter, and Tia Goertzen, a 5-6 junior outside hitter, were named to the second team while Aimee Flaming, a 5-2 senior setter, received honorable mention.
The Bluebirds finished the year with a 29-13 record under coach Crysta Guhr, who has completed seven seasons at GHS.
