All-HOA baseball honors announced

The Marion and Canton-Galva baseball teams combined for 11 selections to the 2016 Heart of America all-league teams.

Marion—Seven Warriors received all-league recognition from Heart of America coaches.

Senior pitcher Dylan Pippin was a first-team selection. Marion’s ace, Pippin was 4-3 on the mound this season with an ERA of 1.22 through 46 innings of work. He struck out 52 batters.

Junior outfielder Mason Pedersen also received first-team recognition. He batted .347 this season, recording 25 hits and driving in 14 runs. He had 12 stolen bases.

Junior Nathan Baldwin was a second-team selection as a pitcher. He was 3-0 this season with an ERA of 2.67 through 21 innings of work. He struck out 24 batters.

Junior Peyton Heidebrecht received second-team honors at third base. He batted .293 last season and recorded 17 hits, including four doubles and one home run. He had 20 RBIs.

Sophomore Jacob Vondenkamp was a second-team selection in the outfield. He batted .333 and tallied 15 hits last season, including two doubles and two triples. He drove in 13 runs.

Sophomore Cole Srajer received second-team recognition as a utility player. Srajer batted .324 this season and recorded 23 hits, including two doubles and a triple. He drove in 14 runs.

Senior Remington Putter received honorable mention honors at second base. He batted .321 this season and had 17 hits, including four doubles and one triple. He drove in 14 runs.

Marion recorded an overall record of 13-7 this season.

Canton-Galva—Four Eagles were recognized by Heart of America league coaches.

Junior designated hitter Hunter Pearson received second-team honors.

Three Eagles received honorable mention: junior Devyn Elkins at second base, junior Reed Wiens at third base, and senior Ethan Loyd in the outfield.

The Eagles were 3-14 this season.
