HHS golf eighth at Sacred Heart Invitational

The Hillsboro golf team placed eighth out of nine schools competing at the Sacred Heart Invitational Friday at Salina.

Phillip Ediger placed 29th among 55 golfers with a 98 to lead the Trojans. Colin Settle finished 38th at 103, Elias Werth 46th at 112, Elliot Ollenburger 52nd at 114 and Alex Dalke 53rd at 118.

In the team competition, the host school won easily with a score of 287, followed by Clay Center 329, Hutch?inson Trinity 350, Central Plains 358, Ellsworth 364, St. John?s Military 394, Minne?a?polis 405, Hillsboro 427 and Smith Center 434.

?I was pleased with Philip rebounding from his first tournament at Hering?ton to improve by a few strokes and play back-to-back nine-hole rounds in the 40s,? coach Scott O?Hare said.

?I was also pleased with how Colin played,? he added. ?Although he didn?t improve his score from last Friday, he did match it playing on a tougher course that he was playing for the first time. Overall, he continues to improve steadily.?

O?Hare said Settle and Ediger are getting ?very close? to breaking through with some much-improved scoring rounds.

?Once they find a little more consistency, eliminate those bad shots that are costing them multiple strokes to recover from, and gain a little confidence, I really believe they will both be shooting much lower numbers,? O?Hare said.

The Trojan coach said his team continues to improve.

?Each one of them are getting to a place where they can play some very solid golf shots and do some good work around the greens,? he said. ?It?s just a matter of getting reps, feeling more comfortable and getting consistency in all phases.?

Coming? The Trojans were scheduled to compete at Sterling April 20. Their next varsity tournament will be May 5 at Halstead.
