Three youth wrestlers qualify for state tournament

Eight members of Hillsboro Wrestling Club competed Saturday at the District III Championship Tournament at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka.

Coach Scott O’Hare said the wrestlers competed hard and represented the program in a positive way.

Three wrestlers earned a place among the top four in their respective weights and will represent the Hillsboro Wrestling Club at the USA Wrestling Kansas Kids State Championship Tournament this weekend at the Topeka Expocentre.

The HWC qualifiers are: Sutton Redger, 10 & under, 120 pounds (runner-up); Tristan Rathbone, 14 & under, 140 pounds (third place); Jordan Bachman, High School Division, 132 pounds (fourth place).

Others competing in the district tournament were: Aaron Hein, 10 & under, 67 pounds; Dallas Whorton, 12 & under, 105 pounds; Lane Rogers, 12 & under, 150 pounds; Charlie Major, High School Division, 120 pounds and Andre Patton (High School Division, 145 pounds).

“The Kansas State Tournament is one of the largest in the nation,” O’Hare said. “Wrestlers and their families will be heading to Topeka on Friday for official weigh-ins that evening.”

Matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and will continue throughout the weekend. Action will take place on 14 mats throughout the two days of competition.
