Pickens will spearhead PBHS track impact at league, state

Peabody-Burns athletes hold Class two 2A state track records.

One record was set in 1981 by Lucille Carson in the 800 meter run. The other was set by Warrior junior Lauren Pickens in the 400 meters last season.

Her record-setting time of 56.62 earned Pickens one of her three gold medals in the state track meet at Cessna Stadium. Pickens ran the table in the 2A sprints, taking first in the 100, 200 and 400.

The only girl scoring in the state meet for Peabody-Burns, Pickens single-handedly earned the Warrior girls? team an eighth-place finish.

Pickens isn?t the only Warrior returning this spring who participated in the state meet. Three of the four members of the 4×800-meter relay that finished eighth will be back for the boys.

Sheldon Wiebe, Joshua Klarmann and Aaron Topham will compete with the hope of qualifying again. Topham also placed eighth in the 3,200-meter run.

In the discus, the Warriors return Isaac Burnett, who finished 11th in that event at state.

?We?re a small team but we have some quality athletes back out this year,? coach Kim Topham said.

Peabody-Burns will begin its season by hosting the Peabody-Burns Quint April 7.
