Overstakes claim 7 gold medals

Claire and Grant Overstake of Hillsboro combined for seven gold medals and one bronze medal at the Heartland Open and Masters Indoor Track and Field Meet Saturday at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park.

The meet, sponsored by Heartland Athletic Services Inc., attracted 125 masters athletes from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, California, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Claire Overstake won the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, shot put and pole vault. Competing in the pole vault for the first time, she exceeded the Master?s All-America standard set by the U.S. Association of Track and Field.

Grant Overstake won the shot put and long jump and was third in the pole vault. He met the All-America Standard for the shot put.

The Overstakes, both 52, compete in the 50-54 age group.
