Local softball team places 7th

The Kansas Elite fast-pitch softball team placed seventh in the 16U ?B? division at the ASA Northern National Champion?ship in Wichita, July 2 to Aug. 1.

In pool play, Kansas Elite beat the Omaha (Neb.) Lightning 7-4 and the Glenview (Ill.) Titans 11-5. In bracket play, they lost to the New Ulm (Minn.) Red Lobsters 0-5, then eliminated Valley Center Hornets 8-4, Sign Pro Storm (S.D.) 10-1, and Glenview (Ill.) Titans 4-3.

The Kansas Elite lost its final game to the Mid-State Magic (Ill.) 11-1. The team finished tied for seventh out of 21 teams representing eight states.

Local players on the team are Stephanie Sanders and Sammy Koons from Hillsboro and Alex Cain and Shelby Purcell of Marion. The coaches are Stacey Sanders, Russ Cain and Rod Koons.
