Local athletes up for Web ?Catchy Awards?

Four local athletes have been recognized for their 2009-10 achievements by KWCH Channel 12?s high school sports Web site catchitkansas.com.

With over two weeks left to vote for the Catchy Awards, Marion?s Julia Zeiner leads the female three-sport athlete competition. Zeiner won two state gold medals in track and led the Marion girls? basketball team to a second-place finish in Class 3A.

Zeiner will participate in track at Kansas State University in 2011.

Hillsboro?s Dakota Kaufman is also nominated. Kaufman led Hillsboro volleyball and basketball to state and also competed in state long jump and triple jump. Kaufman is working out as a member of the K-State volleyball team in Manhattan this summer.

Peabody?s Lauren Pickens leads the girls? track athlete competition. Pickens has a career nine state gold medals after her junior year and holds the state record in the 400 meters.

Class 3A golf champion Daniel Kunataev of Hillsboro High School was also nominated for boys? golf athlete.
