A benefit for Thane Hurst held Saturday at Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course raised $400. Five teams of three participated in the morning scramble tournament.
In May, Thane was diagnosed with a rare form of spinal cancer. A member of the Hillsboro High School golf team, he is the son of Tim and Ginger Hurst. Ginger is bookkeeper at the Marion County Record.
The Record reported that Thane has undergone one operation, with another planned in coming months. Funds raised Saturday will help the family offset the cost of these surgeries.
