Five Hillsboro softball players receive state recognition

Five members of Hillsboro’s Class 3A state champion softball team recently received all-state recognition from the Kansas Softball Coaches Association.

The two players from the Trojans’ senior-laden squad selected for the first team are both underclassmen. Sophomore shortstop Danae Bina was picked as an infielder and freshman Allison Weber was one of four pitchers chosen. Bina batted .472 , scored 36 runs and drove in 30. Defensively, she finished with a fielding percentage of .928.

Weber posted a 14-2 record in her first season as a Trojan. She struck out 77 batters and walked only 27 in 104 innings. Her earned-run average was 3.16.

Selected for honorable mention were seniors Sammy Koons and Stephanie Sanders as an infielder and utility payer, respectively, and freshman Bradli Nowak at catcher.
