Delay costs catfish tourney 20+ teams

Jeff Bucher, of Lebo, and Ted Hendricks, of Scranton, won the US-Cats Kansas District Catfish Tournament, which was originally slated for March 28, and was postponed to April 4 by winter weather.

Event organizer Al Dieball said that more than 20 teams had been registered to compete before the snow-out, but all but five dropped out when the event was pushed back.

The Bucher-Hendricks team netted five fish weighing 18.3 pounds to claim the first place prize of $230. They also garnered the ?big fish? prize with a 4.2-pound channel catfish.

Dave Basil and Mike Seaman, both of Junction City, had the second-biggest haul with two fish totaling just under 5.5 pounds. Their prize was $138.

Third place went to the father-son team of Frank Bruyette Sr. and Frank Bruyette II. They caught one fish weighing 2.5 pounds and won $92.

Dave Mulvey and Adam Schumann, both of Junction City, claimed the $50 fourth place prize despite failing to catch a fish.

Dieball said that the fifth team dropped out early due to high winds. Strong winds and waves also forced the event to end two hours early.
