CVL team qualifies for Senior Babe Ruth regional tournament

The Cottonwood Valley League Senior Babe Ruth team (ages 16-18), comprised mostly of Marion County players, was the runner-up at the District 4 tournament in Moundridge July 6-10. As runners-up, the team qualified for the state tournament this past weekend (July 12-16). In pool play, CVL beat Independence, 4-2, lost to Abilene 7-6, and beat Wellington 7-2, for a second-place finish. In bracket play Sunday, the CVL team lost to Liberal 8-1 in the semifinals, but came back in the third-place game to beat Abilene 13-2 in five innings. The win secured the team a spot in the Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in Junction City, July 20-24. The team, considered the Kansas wild card team, will open play against the North Dakota team at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 21.
