The local 14-year-old NBC traveling team, finished its season participating in the NBC State Tournament in Hays on July-13-14.

Despite not playing their best ball of the season at state, and finishing tied for ninth out of 20 teams, the team had much success during the regular tournament season. Prior to the state tournament, Battle Baseball played throughout Kansas on eight other weekends beginning in early April. On those eight weekends, they twice finished first, once were runner-up, and five times finished in third place.

In compiling a season record of 21 wins and 10 losses, Battle Baseball competed against various teams from Great Bend, Salina, Pratt, Kansas City, Eldorado, Wichita, Ulysses, Nickerson, Minneapolis, Emporia, Newton, Buhler, Inman, Topeka, Ark City and Haven.

The majority of the players are from Hillsboro, but the team also has players from Herington, Peabody and Marion. The team takes its name from Psalm 18:39…”You armed me with strength for battle.”
