Area residents complete marathon

Six current and former Hillsboro residents completed the 10th annual Memorial Marathon in Oklahoma City April 24.

Leading the group was Hillsboro High School graduate Tyler Suderman, also a Tabor College student. He finished the 26.2 miles in 3 hours, 33 minutes and 34 seconds to place fourth out of 134 in his division and 167th overall. It was his first marathon.

Carrie Schroeder, also a former Trojan and current Tabor student, crossed the finish line in 4:05:31. HHS graduate Kirsten Cederberg covered the course in 4:19:52. Randy Wiens, a veteran marathoner, was next at 4:31:26. Glen Kliewer, also a multiple marathon finisher, crossed the line with his daughter and first timer Jocelyn Busick of Hutch?inson at 5:03:51.

In the half-marathon, Bob Woelk was the top Hillsboro finisher at 1:44:05 to place fifth out of 195 in the 50-54 age division for males. Audra Schenk came in at 2:01:24 and Melissa Jost followed at 2:28:24. Lindy Wiens crossed at 3:11:00.

In addition to the Hillsboro runners, Ann Leppke of Marion completed the marathon in 5:15:51.

An estimated 23,000 runners competed in the marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay and 5K races this year, the largest group in the event?s history. A total of 2,634 runners finished the marathon, while 7,234 completed the half-marathon.
