Area golf teams for Centre, Goessel and Peabody-Burns easily claimed the top three spots at the Wheat State League vs. Heart of Plains League Challenge May 9.

Centre came in first out of seven schools with 340 points, Goessel placed second with 357 points and Peabody-Burns took third with 375. The fourth-place team had a score of 766.

Adam Matz earned top individual honors for Centre with a 79.

Teammate Tyler Klenda took second with 82. Trevor Hageberg placed sixth with 89 and Dylan Svitak finished ninth with 90. Benjamin Wirtz had 108.

Shane Goertzen placed fourth for Goessel with an 89. Trey Schmidt took fifth with 89, Braden Unruh seventh with 89, Neal Brubaker eighth with 90, Davis Cook 12th with 91 and Jake Smucker 13th with 97.

Jason Wingert took third for Peabody-Burns with an 84.

Teammate Trevor Foth placed 10th with 90, Sean Brunner was 14th with 100, McKenzie Ensminger was 15th with 101. Tommy Morris shot 102 and Matt Hiebert 105.

Centre was scheduled to compete at the Class 1A regionals at Frankfort May 16.

Goessel was also slated for Class 1A regional competition Monday at Pretty Prairie.

Peabody-Burns was to compete Monday at the Class 2A regional hosted by Belleville.
