Area 12 & under team captures third in state consolation bracket

The locally based Battle Baseball team finished third in the consolation bracket of the 12 & under NBC-Hap Dumont tournament in Pratt, July 8-10. The team entered the state tournament seeded ninth among the 33 competing teams from across Kansas. After pool play, the top 24 teams played a championship bracket, while the other 9 played the consolation bracket. Battle Baseball competed eight tournaments and compiled a 17-14 record during the season, which began in early April. The team consisted of 11 players and three coaches. A majority of the players were from the Hillsboro area, but also from Marion, Chase County, Herington, Council Grove and Lawrence.
