13 area hoops athletes receive All-WSL status

Thirteen athletes from three area schools received all-league recognition from Wheat State League coaches for their performance during the past basketball season.

Goessel landed five players on the list. For the girls, who finished 10-12, senior Jessica Harvey was selected for the first team.

Three members of the boys? 9-12 team received recognition. Senior David Cook was named to the first team while classmates Trey Schmidt and Nic Buller received honorable mention.

Two members of Centre?s state-qualifying girls? squad (17-7) were picked for the first team: sophomore Shelby Makovec and junior Cacey Simons.

The Cougar boys? team (12-10) had two first-team selections as well: senior Justin Dienes and junior Ty Simons.

The Peabody-Burns girls (11-12) were represented by senior Rayna Barnes on the first team while senior Brandee Burnett received honorable mention.

For the boys (12-11), seniors Christian Gard and Austin Savage were named to the first team.
