Four Trojans feted by CKL coaches

Four members of Hills?boro?s Class 3A state runner-up and tri-champion Central Kansas League team were recognized by the CKL coaches last week.

Two juniors from the 39-5 Trojans were unanimous selections for the all-league first team and two seniors received honorable mention.

Junior outside hitter Alex Ratzlaff was one of only three unanimous selections. The Trojans? primary attacker, Ratzlaff compiled 669 kills in 1,526 attempts for a 43.8 percent success rate. She served for 143 aces and an overall 84 percent success rate, and contributed 35 blocks and 472 digs.

Joining her as a unanimous selection on the first team was Shannon Heiser. The junior opposite hitter was second on the team in kills with 202 and a success rate of 35.6 percent. Heiser served successfully 94 percent of the time with 39 aces. She was second on the team with 38 blocks and 207 digs.

Ratzlaff and Heiser both were named to the 3A all-state tournament team as well.

One of the seniors receiving CKL honorable mention was Lakyn Johnson, who contributed 145 kills, served with 95.2 percent accuracy and 31 aces, and recorded 100 digs.

Senior Emily Jost led the team with 59 blocks and contributed 122 kills.

Hillsboro, Hesston and Sterling finished in a three-way tie for first place in the CKL with 10-1 records.
