Emily Sechrist will run for OBU

Hillsboro High School senior Emily Sechrist signed a letter of intent April 13 to compete in cross country and track and field next year at Okla?homa Baptist University in Shawnee.

In cross country, Sechrist was the Class 3A champion in 2011 and 2A champion in 2013. She was the 3A runner-up in 2012 and 2014. Sechrist?s school-record 4-kilometer time is 14 minutes, 36 seconds.

?Emily has prepared herself well academically, athletically and spiritually for success at college,? Holmes said. ?Oklahoma Baptist University has one of the top NAIA cross-country and track programs in the nation, so Emily will have the opportunity to train with other outstanding athletes. We wish her continued success.?

In track, Sechrist was the 3A 3,200-meter champion in 2012, placed third in 2013 and was the 2A runner-up in 2014. In the 1,600 meters, she placed third in 2012, fourth in 2013 and third in 2014. With one more season to complete, Sechrist holds the school record in both races: 11:37.4 in the 3,200 and 5:22.02 in the 1,600.
