USAO sweeps TC soccer teams

The Tabor College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 home loss against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Saturday afternoon. The women?s team fell to USAO by a 6-2 score.

In the men?s game, USAO did not waste much time getting on the board early and often in the first half with two in the first 12 minutes of the match and all four scores before halftime.

Goalkeeper Aaron Schmucker recorded 13 saves in the match.

"The guys did not handle the pressure USAO applied to us early in the match," coach Grant Brubacher said.

"We played much better in the second half after making some adjustments, but we were unable to overcome the deficit we created for ourselves. As the conference season approaches, we need to find a more consistent game."

The men are 2-4-1 overall.

The women?s team allowed two goals in the first 28 minutes. Jessica Burden cut the score to 2-1 heading into halftime.

Burden tallied again at the 58 minute mark, but the Drovers scored four more goals against goalkeeper Aubrey Whitehorn, who recorded 14 saves.

"The women fought hard and I was pleased with the 2-1 score at half," Brubacher said.

"We gave ourselves an opportunity to win the match, but were not able to hold things together in the second half. As we continue to grow as a team, we need to improve our ability to finish matches."

The women are 1-5-1 overall.

Coming? The Bluejays hosted Central Christian College Tuesday at 5 p.m. and will travel to Saint Mary for their first conference games on Saturday.
