TC?s Malone qualifies for NAIA

Competing against NAIA and NJCAA athletes at the Tabor College Invitational Wed?nes?day, Tabor College qualified its sixth track-and-field athlete for NAIA?nationals.

Chelsea Malone qualified for the outdoor championships in May by throwing the javelin 40.74 meters en route to a gold medal.

She will join fellow javelin thrower Samantha Van Ranken, who qualified for nationals at the Tabor Spring Break Meet March 18. Van Ranken finished second to Malone Wednesday, throwing 39.61 meters.

The other Tabor athletes who have already qualified are Christina Addison (half marathon), Emily Post (triple jump), Ryan Chippeaux (high jump) and Tasia Johnson (long jump and 100).

The Tabor women won four gold medals Wednesday. Post won the triple jump (11.07) and Erin Flaming took the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:06.05). The Bluejays also won the 4×100 (49.42).

Tabor?s next competition will be Saturday at the Southwes?tern Relays in Arkansas City.
